Poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large group of synthetic chemicals that can resist chemical attack and withstand high temperatures and hence sometimes referred to as “forever chemicals”.

Used for their oil and water repellent properties, they have a wide range of uses, from fire suppressants in foams, paper and packaging products, textiles, carpets, furniture and anti-stick layers in kitchen pans.
